On innovation frameworks
Buyer beware.
Last week I tackled the question of innovation frameworks, a topic that keeps coming up.
In a corporate context, such framework should provide scaffolding and support for (i) developing ideas into businesses, (ii) managing idea development and innovation at scale, and (iii) leading change efforts as needed.
Beware, window-shopping is not a good first step. Instead begin by understanding how you currently innovate. Speak with people, map processes, figure out what works and what doesn't. Then seek to fill in the gaps, build on strengths, and obliterate obstacles.
Published frameworks should be used only for inspiration—a solid base at best—in order to tweak and improve your own framework. Otherwise it will be an exercise in frustration and futility.
