Innovators: explicate your progress!
Do this or risk justifying your existence in every meeting.
Corporate innovation projects are quite fickle and fragile in their early stages. Expectations are high, while notable returns are potentially years away. In these early stages, innovators must prudently and consistently share are the advances and successes.
The better they can "translate" value and impact of aforementioned, the better for them. For example, it is not enough to say "we learned A, B, and C." No, what follows has to be made explicit too "Based on these learnings, we have decided to do X, Y, and Z. In addition, we know that business areas II and III would find the insight useful as well, so we have reached out to them too."
Doing so regularly will greatly aid the corporate innovators and their projects.
