Structure matters

Your organisation's structure may be quietly killing your best growth opportunities. Most large organisations are architected to protect and optimise what already exists, not to build what comes next.

Understanding how to design the right conditions for innovation to thrive, without disrupting the core business, is one of the most consequential structural decisions a senior leader makes.

I cannot stress the above point enough. Creating appropriate environment and conditions for innovation has much, much more impact on business performance than investing in any one single individual.

The best starting point is not abandoning everything that currently works and building a separate innovation organisation. No, the best starting point is identifying how innovation can contribute to current strategy and ambitions, and then building the smallest possible organisation to do so.

This allows us to concurrently innovate and develop organisation fit for our specific needs, context, and circumstances.
