In pursuit of insight

What is insight?

Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English offers definition most applicable to corporate innovation work:

Insight is "a sudden clear understanding of something or part of something, especially a complicated situation or idea."

Insight—increased understanding of matter at hand—is vital for succeeding with innovation.

If we fail to learn from our efforts; if we are unable to deepen our understanding of the customers, operations, and business; and if we are incapable of acting upon new insight, then we leave innovation to nothing but chance.

And those odds are not good.
