There are no leaders without followers.

Or in other words, for leadership to exist there needs to be followership, and vice versa.

I appreciate Hawkins's statement that "'leadership' is as much about the 'ship' as it is about the 'leader', yet most development efforts still focus on the individual out of context and act as if leadership resides inside the leader."

Consider the whole to evade the halo effect.
