Opportune opposing opinions

Welcome disagreement on what options to pursue, which ideas to develop, how to run an experiment, where to look for inspiration, and so forth.

Polite, courteous, and reasoned disagreement is wonderful for it stirs up creativity, opens up the mind to new perspectives, and encourages constructive dialogue.

Of course, disagreement for the sake of disagreement, as well as disagreement that is driven by entitlement are something else. Those are often destructive and should be quenched before turning into full fledged sabotage.

Let the following questions inspire you to disagree in a way that open space for further dialogue and constructive disagreement:

"I'm not sure if I agree with you. How about we continue the conversation next week after I've had the time to think about what you've shared?"

"Allow me to share a different perspective. ... Have you considered it as well? How?"

"I understand what you are trying to achieve, but I am not so so sure about how you propose to achieve it. What are some alternatives we could discuss?"

Happy disagreeing!
