On sizing an innovation portfolio

If the innovation portfolio is tied to a specific business objective, like for example an amount of new revenue generated, then the size of portfolio should be several times the objective. This factor should be tied into overall risk.

This is to account for the fact that not all ideas in the portfolio will be developed into products, services, and ventures. Adequately sizing the portfolio is vital else we run the risk of investing into it without ever even standing a change of achieving our stated objective.
