Ideas are not your babies

A dangerous metaphor.

Ideas are not your babies

Here is horrible piece of advice for corporate innovators: treat your ideas like they were your children.

Sounds good on the surface, right?

Wrong!

Ideas are here to be spent, tortured, discarded, crushed, disassembled for parts, reconfigured at will, made to compete against each other, compared and contrasted, so and so forth.

I surely hope no one treats their children as disposable means towards certain ends!

Innovators absolutely must own their ideas, but they should absolutely not baby them in any way.
