An opportunity is not a possibility

A vital distinction.

An opportunity is not a possibility

A growing market.

A trend driving change in customer behaviour.

A new technology.

All of the above are opportunities.

In fact, I argue that there are countless growth opportunities at any given moment.

The challenge is not finding an opportunity, but rather validating it and then transforming it into a possibility.

An opportunity is a potential benefit that might be achievable but lacks a defined path to exploitation.

A possibility is a validated opportunity with a clear, actionable pathway, with an organisation that is ready, willing, and able to act.

In other words, opportunities are identified, while possibilities are created through action.

We ought to be screening numerous opportunities, but commit to only a selection of them, forming our portfolio of possibilities.
