A thought or an idea?

Thoughts and ideas are not the same.

A thought is unstructured, temporal, and blurry.

It might be a fragment or seed of an idea.

An idea is coherent and can be readily communicated.

Here is an easy way to check if you are working with an idea or thought.

If you can't answer who is it for and what is it about, then you don't have an idea.

Thoughts should be refined into ideas.

Ideas should be evaluated, explored, and developed.

To confuse them is to risk waste.
