Quickstart: Innovation boards
Practical guidance for busy professionals.
Innovation boards, sometimes also called venture or growth boards, are special-purpose governing bodies with mandate to invest into innovative projects and ventures.
Here is how to start right now:
- First read "Getting started with an Innovation Board" to understand what is needed to establish and operate an innovation board.
- Then watch "How to run effective corporate venture boards" (40 minutes) to learn who should be on the board, what is their key task, mistakes to avoid, and questions the board should consider during evaluation.
- Lastly, read "The 9 Mistakes Venture Boards Make" by Dan Toma and make note of all mistakes listed so you can avoid them. Learning from other peoples mistakes and all that.
Above is a two hour investment that will pay the dividends—even if you never establish an innovation board and just use the insight I shared to improve your current decision making regarding innovative projects and ventures.
