The power of innovation filters

Filtering ideas before prioritisation or any additional work on them helps us speed up and reduce the cost of the innovation process. By ensuring we have the right filters, we know that whatever passes through is worthy of our attention.

Four filters I suggest are:

1. Idea check: ensure that it is a genuine business idea and not just a passing though.
2. Ownership check: ensure that there is a clear idea owner and that you won't be left with a hot-potato orphan.
3. Strategy check: ensure that idea aligns with the organisation's direction and that it contributes to specific strategic objectives.
4. Execution check: ensure that the right people will work on the idea at the right time and with the right resources.
