Introduction to Total Productive Maintenance

Watch this short video to find out what Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is and isn’t.

Developed in the 1970’s, as an attempt to counter ever increasing specialisation of the maintenance workers by getting the machine operators more involved in the preventive maintenance of their machines. With its goals of Zero Accidents, Zero Defects, and Zero Breakdowns it also drives waste elimination efforts.

It is possible to describe TPM as the combination of preventive maintenance, total quality control, and total employee involvement.

Four Principles propose seven pillars for practical and sustainable TPM system:

1. Equipment life history
2. Process standardisation
3. OEE & focus improvement
4. Planned maintenance
5. Cleaning management
6. Spare parts
7. Implementation
