Embrace reality

Acknowledge your reality as it is—e.g. your current customers, product portfolio, capabilities, resources, organisation, and so on. Doing so does not mean forfeiting imagining other possibilities.

In fact, developing a deep understanding of the present helps us shape the future. Especially if we observe it from a multitude of perspectives.

On the other hand, ignoring your reality—e.g. pretending you are a startup while being a fragmented international enterprise—will most likely result in bitterness and waste.

There is a lot to be learned from the present that is useful for the future.

So why not leverage it?
