# Two types of competition

**"Out there:"** other ecosystem players who satisfy the same or similar needs to the same consumers as you do. Sometimes they are obvious, like direct competitors, and sometimes they are more opaque, like entrants from seemingly unrelated industries. The key though, that all of these are coming from *outside* of your organisation.

**"In here:"** internal processes and procedures, the way you work and collaborate, make decisions and adjust course, and so on and so forth. This also includes personal beliefs, values, and actions. In essence, everything that comes from *inside* of your organisation.

The reality is that most innovation efforts fail due to shortcomings in our own processes, beliefs, and actions. Competition simply picks up the advantage.

We have to overcome ourselves, before we can overcome others.
