# On executives torpedoing their innovation

I've recently discussed how executives can lead innovation so their innovators thrive and generate profits with Preston Chandler of the Breakthrough Innovation podcast. 

Preston highlighted the following points from our conversation:

- training employees without giving them space to innovate is organizational cruelty;
- leaders must translate business objectives into real problems their teams can solve;
- fund innovation with small bets, not blind checks;
- tranching unlocks accountability;
- innovation isn’t about micromanaging… it’s about creating the right conditions; and
- most “bad ideas” aren’t the team's fault, they’re most often a sign of misalignment, not failure.
